These Terms are a contract between you and StatsPlease Limited, a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 17276823, registered office 2nd Floor College House, 17 King Edwards Road, Ruislip, London, HA4 7AE ("StatsPlease", "we"). By creating an account or using StatsPlease you agree to these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the End-User License Agreement. If you do not agree, do not use StatsPlease.
Order of precedence. If there is any conflict between these documents, these Terms govern your use of the hosted StatsPlease service, except that (i) the Privacy Policy governs the handling of personal data, and (ii) the End-User License Agreement governs the software license. There is one current version of each document.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use StatsPlease. By creating an account, signing in (including through Google or Microsoft), or otherwise using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old. StatsPlease is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly permit anyone under 18 to use it.
2. The service
StatsPlease runs deterministic statistical tests on tabular data you upload and produces formatted results, figures, and manuscript-style prose. Access is open: anyone who creates an account can sign in and start using StatsPlease right away. Researcher (free) users may run one (1) full analysis per calendar month and view/copy results; paid subscribers (the Author plan) receive unlimited analyses plus additional features (advanced presets, study generation, SPSS/Excel import, and file exports). While billing is not yet active, every account receives the Author plan: your results and projects are saved between sessions, are not wiped on sign out, and are kept until you delete them or until they are removed after 12 months of inactivity (measured from your last activity on a project) — see Privacy Policy §6. When paid plans begin — we will give notice first — the free Researcher plan will not save your work between sessions. You can delete anything yourself at any time. We may change features and limits with notice.
3. Your responsibilities: acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload identifiable or sensitive personal data. You must de-identify datasets before uploading (see Privacy Policy §1). You are solely responsible for de-identification and for any lawful basis to process the data you upload; you are the controller of that data.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code, statistical rule engine, decision logic, models, or know-how of StatsPlease.
- Copy, scrape, or systematically extract StatsPlease's outputs, rule selections, templates, or behavior to build, train, or improve a competing product or dataset, or to reconstruct the rule engine.
- Resell, sublicense, or provide the service to third parties except as expressly permitted; share account credentials; or circumvent usage limits, the entitlement gate, or security controls.
- Upload unlawful content or malware, or use StatsPlease to violate any law or third-party right.
These restrictions protect StatsPlease's trade secrets and intellectual property and are a material part of this agreement.
4. Intellectual property
- StatsPlease owns all rights in the software, the statistical rule engine, decision logic, templates, and the look and feel. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use StatsPlease per these Terms and the EULA.
- Your data and outputs. You retain ownership of the data you upload and of the analysis outputs generated for you. You grant us a limited license to host and process your data solely to provide the service to you.
4a. Confidentiality of your data
We treat the datasets and analysis outputs you upload or generate ("your data") as confidential. We will not access, use, or disclose your data except (i) to provide, secure, and support the service for you; (ii) as you instruct; (iii) where required by law, in which case, where legally permitted, we will give you prior notice; or (iv) in aggregated or de-identified form that does not identify you or any individual. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your data to train any general-purpose machine-learning model. We limit access to your data to personnel and sub-processors who need it to provide the service and who are bound by confidentiality obligations no less protective than these. This obligation survives termination for as long as we hold your data.
5. Plans, billing, and renewals
Billing is not active yet, so no one is charged today. The terms in this section apply once paid plans go live.
- Paid subscriptions are sold and processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record and seller of record. Paddle handles checkout, applicable taxes, and refunds; Paddle's buyer terms also apply to your purchase.
- Subscriptions auto-renew each period until cancelled. You may cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the paid period.
- Refunds, once paid plans are live, are handled by Paddle as our Merchant of Record, under Paddle's buyer terms. Nothing in these Terms limits non-waivable statutory rights you have where you live.
6. Not professional advice; accuracy
StatsPlease automates standard statistical procedures, but it is a tool, not a substitute for professional statistical, clinical, regulatory, or legal judgment. You are responsible for choosing appropriate methods, checking assumptions, and validating results before relying on or publishing them. The service is provided "as is" and "as available."
7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, and our total liability arising out of or relating to StatsPlease is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits, or research outcomes. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; where that is the case they apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
8. Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your data (including any personal data you upload in breach of §3), your use of StatsPlease, or your breach of these Terms.
9. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms (including the acceptable-use and anti-reverse-engineering provisions) or that create security or legal risk. You may stop using StatsPlease at any time. You can permanently delete your account and all of your data yourself from your account settings in the app; this cannot be undone. Terms that by their nature survive (IP, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, governing law) survive termination.
10. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms, including any question regarding their existence, validity, or termination, shall be referred to and finally resolved by arbitration under the LCIA Rules, which Rules are deemed to be incorporated by reference into this clause. The number of arbitrators shall be one; the seat, or legal place, of arbitration shall be London, England; and the language of the arbitration shall be English. Nothing in these Terms deprives you of the mandatory consumer-protection rights, or the protection of mandatory laws, of the country in which you reside, including any non-waivable right to bring claims in your local courts. The region-specific terms below apply based on where you are.
10a. EU/EEA & UK consumers
You retain all mandatory rights under EU/UK consumer law, including statutory conformity rights and any non-waivable right of withdrawal. Where you consent at checkout to immediate performance of a digital service and acknowledge losing the withdrawal right once performance begins, that consent applies.
10b. California residents
See the Privacy Policy for CCPA/CPRA disclosures. We do not sell or share personal information.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms; we will post the revised version and, for material changes, provide notice. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept them.
